2011 Hatteras, NC Fishing Report from Stormy Petrel II

We are still open for charter on many days this summer.  Offshore fishing has been good for dolphin (mahi-mahi) and we have been catching Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel in good numbers most days near-shore.

June 7- We had a good morning at the Inlet with plenty of bites from Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel.  Our group learned how to set out lines, land and unhook the fish.

May 20 to June 12- We went to the Gulf Stream on 19 days in search of pelagic seabirds and other marine life.  On two days we saw these False Killer Whales, which are not really whales but big dolphins.  They look a bit like Pilot Whales but they are slimmer, faster, and generally more playful.  The males were up to 18 feet long, but we saw all ages and sizes.  They rode under the bow and we could hear them whistling to each other.

May 12- Great dolphin fishing for the Lewis Frederick party.

Just back from the boat yard, we are available for tuna fishing. So far it's been mostly bluefins that have been around.  We caught this Bluefin Tuna on March 4 near Diamond Shoals in 44 degree water!
