Boarding time is 5:45 AM for 6:15 AM departure, we generally return between 5:00 and 6:00 PM
*Please call us if you would like to sign up for one of these trips. We need to make sure we have space available!
We also run some photography trips that will focus on getting good pictures of the species we see. This may include whales and dolphins in addition to the birds we will be looking for. You can check our website for specifics on these trips, or stay posted here for the monthly schedule.
Birdwatching???some of you may ask...why would anyone go out there to watch birds??? There are some amazing species of bird that live only on the open ocean. Their only use for land is to breed, otherwise they are as at home on the waves as we are on land. A good example is the albatross - most people have at least heard of them! While we do not commonly see albatrosses off of Cape Hatteras, there are many species we do see that are just as interesting! The name of our boat, the Stormy Petrel II, actually comes from a type of bird commonly seen in all the oceans of the world! The Storm-Petrel is a small tube nosed bird (they have a tube on the top of their bill to excrete the salt from the ocean water) about the size of a Bluebird. They seem to walk on the water as they delicately stir up the surface with their webbed feet to feed on plankton and fish oil. There are many different species of Storm-Petrel, but you'd have to come out with us to see them!
